Sydney Baloue is a writer, producer, boxer, voguer, and the coordinator of events and programming at the Center for LGBTQ Studies at CUNY. In this interview, he takes us on a tour through the ballroom scenes of Paris, Berlin, and London, before describing his research—first in graduate school, and then independently—on the urban geography of the New York City ballroom scene. Along the way he shares stories about queer boxing, learning to vogue, the abuse he experienced in academia, and his recent writing projects.
