Frame reads: "Miss Johnstone Bennett, the original in this country of 'Jane,' in the play of that name was born on the ocean. She was left motherless in infancy and was adopted by a Mrs. Bennett. When she determined to go on the stage she answered an advertisement and secured an engagement in a small company. Mr. Richard Mansfield saw her and engaged her to create the part of Sally in 'Monsieur.' In his company she afterward appeared as Kathleen in 'Beau Brummell,' the Vassar Girl in 'Prince Karl,' and the dancer in 'A Parisian Romance.' Then she went to Charles Frohman's company, first appearing as Roxana in 'All the Comforts of Home,' and then in 'Jane.' Next season in the same company she will appear as Tommy in 'The Amazon.'
