Interview with Kris Hayashi

An interview with Kris Hayashi, an Asian American trans man, community organizer, and activist. At the time of this interview, he was the executive director of the Transgender Law Center (TLC.) Prior to his work with TLC, Hayashi served as executive director of the Audre Lorde Project for ten years, and as executive director of the California-based Youth United for Community Action. In this oral history interview, Hayashi discusses the beginnings of his activist work as a student in California in the 1990s, his community organizing work among other trans people of color at the Audre Lorde Project, alliances with other organizations and initiatives like the Trans Day of Action, the development of TLC during his time as executive director, TLC's work on the detention of trans migrants by ICE and the Border Patrol, as well as his thoughts on current and future campaigns and the trajectory of trans justice.
