Finding aid for the Women Against Violence Against Women Records

The Women Against Violence Against Women collection consists of records collected by organization members Gail Hanon and Ellen Herman. The Administration series focuses on the group's activities, formation, and operation as a grassroots organization. It includes correspondence between the organization and its supporters, film and record executives, and anti-violence organizations; information on publicity efforts, including press packets and posters; material documenting the group's organizing principles; and fliers and newsletters from the national office and other branches. Of special interest are Women Against Violence Against Women's boycotts of film and record companies. The Subject Files series comprises the research material used by Women Against Violence Against Women. Included are articles, bibliographies, brochures, essays, and newsletters relating to issues on battered women, boycotts, censorship, child sexual abuse, family violence, the film industry, pornography, rape, the recording industry, sadomasochism, and television. Information concerning the Boston Chapter's interaction with other anti-violence against women's organizations such as Women Against Pornography and Women Against Violence in Pornography and Media are included in the collection.
